PRODUCTION UPDATE #4: YOUR SHOES ARE TAKING SHAPE

In the last update, you got to see our backstage and experienced the art of making great shoes through Oscar’s vision. You also had a peek at the cutting and broguing processes on some of the shoes. Now, let me walk you through the finishing process, so you can get familiar with the stitching and lasting of your shoes. First, let’s talk about the stitching process. Since we want to make sure you receive a strong, good-looking shoe, we follow a sewing method with a high number of stitches per inch (SPI). In our case, we have an impressive stitch density of 11 SPI. This takes more time and effort, but increases reliability and looks beautiful. Now that the artisans are manually measuring, cutting and stitching the leather to create your products, let me take you backstage and introduce you to one of the most important members of our team: Oscar.Oscar is one of our business partners and he manages the workshop we have in Bogotá. For a long time, we partnered with different factories, until we decided to start producing directly. There are many benefits to this: It allow us take you behind the scenes, have control over processes and the quality of the components, but most importantly, have a face-to-face relationship with the artisans, and make sure that working conditions are fair. PRODUCTION UPDATE #2: I WANT YOU TO KNOW ALL ABOUT THE LEATHER WE'LL BE USING FOR THE APRIL CAMPAIGN.

Production on the April campaign is now underway. So, first things first, let's talk about the leather we'll be using to make most of the items from the campaign. It should come as no surprise that, for us, the absolute most important material we use is leather. That's why each item from the campaign will be handcrafted from beautiful full grain leather from Argentina (with the exception of the Reid sneakers, which will be made from full grain leather from an Italian tannery When choosing leather, for us the only acceptable level of quality is full grain calfskin. Full grain means that the outermost layer of the skin is left with the original pores intact. No artificial correction such as buffing or sanding is used. Most importantly, no synthetic layers are applied to cover up imperfections or poorly-tanned hides.When leather is categorized as full grain, it means that it preserves the natural layer containing the higher pore density where fibers...
