Production on the April campaign is now underway. So, first things first, let's talk about the leather we'll be using to make most of the items from the campaign.

It should come as no surprise that, for us, the absolute most important material we use is leather. That's why each item from the campaign will be handcrafted from beautiful full grain leather from Argentina (with the exception of the Reid sneakers, which will be made from full grain leather from an Italian tannery

When choosing leather, for us the only acceptable level of quality is full grain calfskin.

Full grain means that the outermost layer of the skin is left with the original pores intact. No artificial correction such as buffing or sanding is used. Most importantly, no synthetic layers are applied to cover up imperfections or poorly-tanned hides.

When leather is categorized as full grain, it means that it preserves the natural layer containing the higher pore density where fibers are tighter and more flexible. This means the leather has more structural stability than lower-quality corrected leathers, resulting in products that age better, crease more naturally, and won't peel or crack over time.

It also looks better. Put a shoe, bag, or jacket made with full grain leather next to one made from a lower quality hide and you'll immediately see (and feel) the difference.

Compare them after a year or so of use and you'll definitely see the difference!

Finally, because full grain leather preserves its original grain, it can absorb conditioners better, which means easier maintenance. With proper care, items made with this leather can last a lifetime.

In short, this leather is more durable, looks better and more natural, and will develop a unique patina over time.

Here are some specific specs on the leather we've received:

    • Vegetable-tanned and aniline-dyed meaning it's better for the environment and chrome-free. The production of this leather is safer for the tannery workers and means your skin won't come in contact with harsh chemicals.
    • 1.4mm to 1.6mm thick which ensures the perfect balance between softness and sturdiness.
    • Hand-finished with a blend of carnauba wax and shea butter to give the leather vibrant and lasting color.
    • Tanned for a total of six weeks to ensure the color will be fully impregnated into the pores of the leather.

I'm sure this is leather you'll fall in love with as soon as you see it!

The next step in the process for all products is inspecting the hides before measuring and cutting them by hand. Once this step is underway, I’ll be sure to let you know with photos and videos from the factory so you can see yourself how each item is made.
