I’m honored to welcome you to our June production campaign. I hope you had a great 4th of July, full of parades, barbecues and fireworks :)
My name is Pilar and I will be keeping you company during the next couple of months.
Every two weeks you'll be getting exciting updates about your Beckett Simonon products. You'll have full backstage access, and I'll tell you some great stories you can’t miss.
Before we continue, we want to thank you for your ongoing support and for trusting us. Thank you for believing high-quality craftsmanship are still possible.
Great things take time. We're committed to this idea and we want you to be part of it.
So, “Why the long wait?,” you might be asking yourself. “Why shouldn’t I drive 5 min from home, go to the closest mall, and get the first pair of shoes I like?” I don’t blame you for thinking about this option.
We do live in a speedy world, where we want things immediately.
But also think about how a good wine is made. It takes experience, knowledge and time to age a good bottle of wine.
Wineries carefully select the types of grapes and the soil. Once they have harvested the grapes, they think about the kind of aging vessels they’re using.
Also about the appropriate temperatures to store the wine, and the aging time (months or even years.) Finally, they think about the bottling and even about the type of corks they’re using.
Now that you know about this thoughtfulness and effort, wouldn’t you like to take a good sip of this wine?
Let’s imagine it is your birthday. Your friends and family have come to dinner. When you’re done eating, it is time for a toast. You open that good bottle of wine you’ve been saving for a special ocassion.
Everybody takes a sip and smiles. The wine is so good, you can’t describe it.
The same goes when you buy our shoes. There’s a lot of planning and time behind, so you can be sure you’ll be getting a splendid product. So, how do we make it work to offer you high-quality at lower prices? Let us show you how:
1) We don’t keep inventory. It is wasteful and requires high profit margins to offset the upfront costs. Instead, we produce on demand.
2) The majority of production is done in our Colombian studio. This eliminates outsourcing costs. Most importantly, we can ensure fair working conditions.
3) We produce micro batches and ship the product directly to you. There’s no middlemen! Still, we slightly overproduce some items to facilitate size/product exchanges.
We’ve learned these important lessons throughout the years. This is how we’re able to offer you a one-kind-of-a-product, made to last.
Where do our raw materials and components come from?
We’re able to offer to you the best products, thanks to the experience of the craftspeople who work in our studio.
We also make sure to get the best raw materials and components possible. Let’s take a tour around the world to see where our materials come from:
Spain: We bring our cotton waxed shoelaces from Tarragona, a town southwest of Barcelona. This family has been making shoelaces since 1918!
Cotton waxed shoelaces have a leathery aspect and texture. This will highlight the style of your Beckett Simonon shoes.
Also, they are very resistant and won’t get frayed. Just so you know, you’ll be getting an extra pair of shoelaces in your shoebox :)
Japan: We get our YKK zippers from Japan. This brand is actually responsible for making half of the zippers in the world. We work with one of the top lines called Everbright.
These are the most durable zippers there are. They will always slide smoothly and will keep their shine.
Argentina: All leather for uppers, soles, heels and linings come from a tannery in Hurlingham, Argentina.
This is a third-generation of tanners and they arrived to Argentina after World War I. They use their own family recipe to tan the leathers and provide us with the best type of leather there is.
We also have our studios in Portugal and Colombia. The craftspeople in both countries apply their expertise to make your shoes and accessories. Men and women from different generations make all this magic possible.
It is a small world indeed, isn’t it?
So now you know the waiting will come with great benefits for you. I will make sure to keep you updated along the way concerning your products.
We’ve now received your orders, and the first steps of production have already started. Right now some of the artisans are selecting the hides by hand. They’re making sure the leather used in your products is in perfect condition.
They do this by carefully examining each of the hides and marking down any defective pieces. After passing this quality control, the leather will enter the cutting and stitching processes.
If you have any questions about products or manufacturing processes, we’re always happy to hear from you!
