4 Fun Ways to Enjoy Labor Day

Written by Tigre Haller

Labor Day is a tribute to, and reward for, the hard work you do year-round. It’s  time to savor the last days of summer, spend time with friends and family (or maybe alone), do some traveling or just stay put.

It’s important to disconnect from your devices, let go of stress, and breathe in the fresh air. Try camping near a lake, having a barbecue, or taking a long walk in nature.

At Beckett Simonon we believe in enjoying downtime and recharging. And Labor Day was created to do just that.

Personally, I love to spend the day in the park with my friends. We have a big picnic, play games and chill out. There’s always wonderful food and drinks, time to wind down and create lasting memories.

In celebration of Labor Day, we chatted with some of our favorite personalities from fashion and entertainment about their work, and what they do to relax.

Kick back and spend a few minutes with these fun folks:

The Traveling Twosome

First up are Brian and Yadia, founders of Gent Life, a men’s lifestyle blog with the mission “to combat the wave of mediocrity that has swept recent generations with knowledge of history, class, and distinction.”

What does a crazy workday look like for you?
Ha, we can barely keep up most of the time. It’s pretty much that same daily breakdown with attendance to local events or corporate dinners sprinkled in. Somehow we keep waking up the next morning to do it all over again. :)

What do you do to unwind afterwards?
A day in the Gent Life looks like this:

6:30 a.m. Return Gent Life emails and prepare our experiences/thoughts on our instagram.

7:30 a.m. Put the finishing touches on our social media over a smoothie mixed with Cuban coffee.

8:30 a.m. Dress and head to iHeartRadio Inc and Izea where we manage millions in assets by day.

6:00 p.m. Head home and dress for an hour of rigorous physical exercise in Crossfit or Hot Yoga.

8:00 p.m. Dinner and begin itemizing the lessons of our day for aspiring gents in the business/real world, climbing the ladder right behind us.

10:00 p.m. After putting the finishing touches on our Gent Life digital and social publications, we enjoy a very much deserved glass or two of wine.

What do you do on a day off like Labor Day?
Labor Day for the Gent Life is always travel:

Were often somewhere on the inner/outer continental United States exploring its rich culture, history and a few friends and family.

Our businesses and backgrounds have brought us the fortune of strong relationships in all parts of the world. We use our time away from the office to bask in that gift and share it with all of you. Cheers!

Next up we checked-in with Chris Van Vliet, Canadian television/radio personality, YouTuber, and entertainment reporter (among other things).

What does a crazy workday look like for you?
I feel incredibly grateful to have a job that Im excited to go to every single day. In addition to being the host of the TV show "Deco Drive" on WSVN in Miami, I also founded a bass fishing brand called "WOO! Tungsten" and I am constantly scheduling or recording content for my YouTube channel and podcast where I interview professional wrestlers.

No two days are the same and that's what I love about this! My day typically starts at 7am --after making some green tea I send a few emails and hop on a FaceTime call with my business partner for my fishing company.

When I get to the TV station, I jump right into my story for the day which can range from interviewing a celebrity on the red carpet of a movie premiere to swimming with alligators (no, seriously!). We are live on TV every night, so there are no second takes.

What do you do to unwind afterwards?
Working out is a great way to wind down whether its lifting weights in the gym or going for a run. I also like to reflect on the day by writing in a journal and meditating, even if it's just for a few minutes. My girlfriend is a certified yoga instructor so going to classes with her always helps to make me feel refreshed.

What do you do on a day off like Labor Day?
I like to make the most of any day off that I have. Youll find me bass fishing at the lake, checking out a local pro wrestling show or attending a baseball game (my dad and I have been to 22 Major League Baseball stadiums). Im also a big fan of chicken wings and I'm always on the lookout for the best wings in any town that Im in!

Our third catch-up was with Noah Williams, a style blogger, and “creative, who sips scotch” from Charlotte, NC.

What does a crazy workday look like for you?
Like most millennials, I have a myriad of "side-hustles" in addition to my day job. A typical workday begins as soon as I wake up - around 6:30. I respond to emails from brands and agencies I am working on freelance projects for. After that, I get into my office around 8:15 to 8:30.

I am a project manager by day, so I am coordinating across multiple teams/brands that my company owns to make sure everyone is moving in the right direction. At lunch, it is back to building my personal brand and hammering out more brand emails and taking the occasional call.

After work I typically have a shoot or two lined-up during the week which ties me up until around 7:00. After that it is time to post on the multiple social media accounts I manage for myself and my personal clients.

I try to squeeze in at least 30 minutes at the gym 4 days a week. When all of that is done it's time for dinner and whatever HBO I am currently obsessed with (currently Succession).

What do you do to unwind afterwards?
The gym is the best way for me to unwind. I love, in addition to the typical weights, to do a Peleton ride.

What do you do on a day off like Labor Day?
Labor Day is for family and friends. I absolutely love going to different breweries in the area or just kicking back by the pool.

We hope you enjoyed this post. Send us a message and let us know what you do on Labor Day. Have fun!
